Sierra Madre is a charming small town of about 11,000 people, located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, between Pasadena and Arcadia. It has its own police department and an excellent all-volunteer fire department. It is served by the Pasadena Unified School District, and has an elementary school and middle school which sereve Sierra Madre students.

Sierra Madre has 51 Designated Historical Properties, representing the architectural styles, culture, and history of Sierra Madre. Included is the Pinney House, a Victorian landmark, originally built as a hotel in 1887.

Sierra Madre has many special events throughout the year. It is famous for its annual Wistaria Festival, centered around the world's largest blossoming plant. The Wistaria vine is on private property, and thousands of visitors come for the one day each year it can be viewed by the public. There is also a Fourth of July parade, Concerts in the Park, the Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Camp-out, the Mount Wilson Trail Race, arts and crafts festivals, an Easter Egg Hunt, and many other fun activities.
