Duarte is a city of about 20,000, located below the San Gabriel Mountains, east of Monrovia. The historic Route 66 runs through the middle of the city, on Huntington Drive. Police and fire services are provided by Los Angeles County.
The Duarte Unified School District, which also serves the city of Bradbury, now includes the California School of the Arts San Gabriel Valley campus. Based upon the award-winning Orange County School of the Arts, the San Gabriel Valley campus gives talented students "unparalleled preparation" for higher education and a career in the arts.
Duarte is probably most famous for The City of Hope Medical Center, which specializes in the treatment of cancer and other catastrophic diseases. In fact, the city's slogan is "City of Health."
There are many attractions in and near Duarte, including the The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant (an old schoolhouse, and the oldest building in Duarte), the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale, and all the great attractions in Arcadia, and Pasadena.
