Altadena, California
Altadena is a hillside community north of Pasadena that was developed in the late 1880s. It has a population of about 42,000, and is in an unincorporated part of Los Angeles County. Police and fire services are provided by Los Angeles County. Altadena is part of the Pasadena Unified School District. It has its own Altadena Library, although the extensive Pasadena Public Library and its many branches are easily accessible.
Altadena is known for its small-town feel and its many rural hiking trails into the San Gabriel Mountains.
Area attractions include the Eaton Canyon Natural Area Park and Nature Center, the historic Mount Lowe Railway site; and the Altadena Historical Society, which conducts annual tours of Altadena's historic past.
