Pasadena, California
Pasadena is a city of about 140,000, north of Downtown Los Angeles. It was incorporated in 1886, making it the second oldest city in Los Angeles County. It has its own police and fire departments, and an extensive public library system. The Pasadena Unified School District serves the city and the unincorporated areas of Pasadena.
Pasadena is most famous for the Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game on New Year's Day. About 1,000,000 people a year come to Pasadena to watch the Parade. It's a wonderful and crazy time to be in Pasadena.
Pasadena has a small-town feel, but a large-city appetite for fine restaurants, great shopping, and cultural and educational activities. Following is a short list.
- The Norton Simon Museum, where you will find sculptures including "The Thinker" by Rodin, and art by Degas, Picasso, and Rembrandt, to name just a few.
- Old Pasadena, for great shopping and dining, or just walking.
- The Pasadena Playhouse, the Official State Theater of California. The Playhouse presents live theater productions, and is the center of The Playhouse District, a popular place for before- and after-theater dining.
